Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo-Book Talk

six-of-crows-1

Six of Crows is one of those books that you start reading and you feel like you could read FOREVER because its just SO SO GOOD. This book was everything EVER. It was one of those books that reminded me of why i love reading, and i one hundred percent recommend it to everyone.

Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him ricProcessed with VSCO with c1 preseth beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone…
A convict with a thirst for revenge
A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager
A runaway with a privileged past
A spy known as the Wraith
A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums
A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes

Kaz’s crew are the only ones who might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.

The plot of this book is so unbelievably perfect. It kept me on my toes at ALL times and made me keep reading until my eyes had to rest. But if i had to be honest it took me about 25 pages to properly get into the story because of the new world and different writing style but that was the ONLY problem i had with this book and it’s not even a proper problem, so if this doesn’t persuade you to read the book i’m not sure what will.

“No mourners. No funerals. Among them, it passed for ‘good luck.”

The characters that Leigh Bardugo created are so incredible. Even though there are six different characters, each with a different point of view, Leigh Bardugo was able to give all her characters a fully developed personality that makes you beleive you’ve known these characters forever. My favourite aspect of this book has to be the friendship between all the characters, their conversations and interactions were what i LIVED for. And i can’t forget to mention Bardugo’s phenomenal writing style. Her writing style is the kind that you wonder HOW DOES ONE WRITE THIS PERFECT? It’s magical, hilarious and absolutley beautiful. Definitely a 5/5 book.

SPOILERS

Okay so where should i start?  (the rest of this book talk is basically incoherent fangirling talk)

That very first scene of the book with the point of view of Joost made such an impact on the book for me. The death of Joost was so shocking that i was immediately drawn into the book after that. I think it was done so we could understand the full horrors of juda parem.

The Crew. Let’s start with Kaz, a smart, closed off, witty boy with a dark past. I LOVED every inch of Kaz’s personality. From that every first scene of Kaz i loved him. And then as we got to know more and more about his past and Jordie i fell in love with him even more.

“When everyone knows you’re a monster, you needn’t waste time doing every monstrous thing.”

Everywhere Kaz was you found Inej, the Wraith. Inej freaking awesome. I loved her soft heart and the times when she would pray for Kaz even when he told her not to and i loved how kick-ass she was. Inej was always doing tasks that would kill any other member of the crew. Like when she had to clim the freaking incinerator. That scene was so intense, i was so scared she was going to give up but it was Inej and she made it to the top. I loved how courages she was, and how she stole that necklace from Tante Helene she was juts so awesome. I adored the relationship between Kaz and Inej sooooo much and they HAVE to be together in the next book and also WE HAVE TO FIND INEJ ASAP because what is the crew without Inej?

“I can hear the change in Kaz’s breathing when he looks at you.”
“You… you can?”
“It catches every time, like he’s never seen you before.”

Then we had Nina and Matthias. I loved Matthias’ character development and i loved the moment FINALLY realised that the druskelle had basically brainwashed him into thinking Grisha were evil. I loved how he slowly warmed up to being in Kaz’s crew and got along with everyone. And most of all i love his love hate relationship with Nina. Their backstory made me weep and squeal because ahhh SO CUTE. Nina was so fierce and strong and generous which is why i loved her. And that scene when Matthias’ saved her from the juda parem and the cell has me screaming and i was so glad that she was saved but only to take the juda parem because she’s just so freaking selfless. I hope that she gets better in the next book somehow, maybe they’ll find a cure but something tells me that she’s really strong and will be able to recover on her own.

I have been made to protect you. Only in death will I be kept from this oath.

Finally we has the ever so charming Jesper and Wyland. I don’t have much to say besides that i loved the dynamic between them and how natural their banter was. Jesper’s constant teasing of Wyland had me smiling like a cheshire cat and i’m reaaallly interested to see where their relationship goes.

I loved the backstory of each and every charcacter and the unexpectedness of all of it. The flashback where Kaz freed liberated from the Menagerie made me feel so much for those two and i finding out that Pekka Rollins was the one that took everything from Kaz and Jordie made so much sense. The entire ending with Pekka Rollins as the narrator gave me chills and i’m so excited to see what is next for the crew and i am MOST excited to see a reunion between Inej and the rest of the crew when they rescue her from Van Eck.

Who is your favourite character of the crew? Let me know in the comments below!
